Patient Safety Advocate

Author & Tapering Survivor

I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 1999 and prescribed psychiatric medications that, over time, did far more harm than good. What followed was a long, painful journey through polypharmacy, iatrogenic illness, and severe withdrawal from prescribed rapid tapers. Along the way I came to see the other side of psychiatric care, one that isn't always talked about and often leaves people isolated and misunderstood.

My work isn't about judgement. It's about understanding the real effects of long-term psychiatric medication, recognising that every person's experience is unique, and offering clarity in a landscape that's often confusing and contradictory.

Passionate about education, empathy and empowerment

After decades of psychiatric polypharmacy, misdiagnosis, and escalating prescriptions, I was seriously harmed by irresponsible, psychiatrist-directed rapid tapers.

Since November 2020, I have withdrawn from 11 psychiatric medications and am currently tapering using a slow, hyperbolic, body-led approach. This journey has required careful symptom tracking, long holds, micro-reductions, and constant listening to my nervous system, alongside years of independent research and lived adaptation as I steadily rebuild stability and health.

Why this work matters

What I wish I had known 25 years ago is the reason this website exists now. Too many people are told that medication is the only path, without hearing about the risks, the possible long-term harm, or the challenge of tapering off safely. This gap in honest information can lead to frustration, fear and suffering that could have been prevented.

I share what I've learned — not as medical advice, but as experience-based insight. Tapering psychiatric medications can carry serious risks if done too quickly, and I always encourage anyone considering it to work with a knowledgeable healthcare provider.

What I focus on

My work is centred on:

  • Increasing awareness about the risks and complexities of psychiatric medications.
  • Promoting safe, harm-reduction tapering methods.
  • Sharing lived experience so others can make informed choices.
  • Connecting people with resources that support education and understanding.

Every story is different, and every recovery journey deserves respect, safety, and the right information.

My Approach

This isn't clinical advice. It isn't diagnosis. It's the culmination of the lessons I wish I had 25 years ago: what helped, what didn't, what's safe and what's risky. I aim to create a space where people feel less alone and better informed, whether you're just starting to question your treatment, in the midst of a tapering process, or supporting someone you care about.

Life beyond medication

I believe people deserve the space to rediscover themselves beyond diagnoses and prescriptions. With the right support and understanding, you can make choices that feel grounded and safe.
